Deskmate Storage Cart

Design Development II | 2021

Working from home has been trending upward for decades, and saw a sudden rise with the Covid-19 epidemic. Workstations aimed at producing efficient, happy workers have been made for the corporate office environment for the last century, but little of that knowledge and production value has trickled into the so-called “home office.” The Deskmate storage cart was designed to address the specific problems that remote workers face trying to create a productive work area in a small home environment.

Through my market research I found that the most common complaints home-workers had with their current workstation related to storage and organizaton, worksurface space, and location in a crowded home. Parked under a desk, Deskmate's three drawers bring extra storage to an existing workstation. When pulled out, it provides an auxiliary worksurface for crowded desks in tight environments. Deskmate can also be rolled into another room for a change of scenery or to avoid distracting housemates, with the aid of its built in power distribution and a sliding worksurface perfectly sized to work at a sofa or other lounge seating.
